EA announce 6 new games for Nintendo Wii

Thursday 13 Jul 2006 : 20:45 PM

EA today announced that they are developing 6 titles for Nintendo's Wii. The following series will be getting the Wii treatment.

* Need for Speed
* Tiger Woods
* SSX
* Madden '07
* The Godfather
* Harry Potter

Now we wouldn't normally get too excited at yet another version of Madden or tiger Woods with slightly prettier graphics and new rosters, but this is the Wii we're talking about so suddenly the prospect gets a little more interesting.

If you thought Wii sports looked fun then imagine playing Tiger Woods with the Wiimote. EA have already demonstrated the Wiimote with Madden and we can't wait to see what they do with SSX.

Every day there seems to be another reason to pre-order a Wii. Let's just hope it lives up to the hype.

Wii to come with free game.

Wednesday 12 Jul 2006 : 00:47 AM

The Australian Toys 'r' Us site is apparently advertising the Nintendo Wii for Pre-order and it comes with a free game.

It hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo but many have speculated that the machine will ship with Wii Sports.

It's been many years since a machine came bundled with a free game, it doesn't seem to be fashionable these days but it would be a great move for Nintendo. Wii Sports looks like the perfect way to get people playing and demonstrate how cool the controller is. The more people they can get playing Wii Tennis, the more people will rush out and buy one.

Nintendo Wii coming earlier than thought ?

Thursday 06 Jul 2006 : 14:42 PM

Warning: this article is complete conjecture and hearsay!

The latest rumours say that Nintendo has already started manufacturing final units of the Wii and it could be released in October or even late September.

The rumour originates from Chris Morris at CNN Money but we're not sure how much credence it deserves as, even if Nintendo was ahead of their production targets, it's unlikely that the launch titles will also be ready early.

Wii to drop 6th November in US ?

Monday 03 Jul 2006 : 20:39 PM

US site Cubed3 are reporting that the Nintendo Wii will be released on 6th November on the other side of the pond. The story apparently comes from an "industry insider" and we wouldn't normally give credence to a story like this if wasn't for the fact that American magazine Sports Illustrated for kids have also printed the same date, so either they're making it up or somebody from Nintendo has let it slip to them too.

The date would make a lot of sense as it would give them a few weeks headstart on the PS3 and assuming yields are high enough it would mean that their machine was sitting in the store when parents are unable to get themselves a PS3 on launch day.

More Wii details

Wednesday 21 Jun 2006 : 12:19 PM

Nintedo held a "Corporate Management Policy Briefing" yesterday which was basically the press event involving Nintendo bigwigs Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto. Between them they revealed some interesting details about the upcoming Wii and gave some insight into the relative failure of the Gamecube.

You can read the full details here but we've summarised the most interesting bits below.

* Iwata says that Nintendo shouldn't be in business if their only aim for Wii is to outsell the gamecube he says, "we are making efforts so that Wii will show a far greater result than GameCube".

* He blamed the failure of the gamecube on gaps in game releases but promised not to make the same mistake again, "To avoid repeating this with Wii, we have been intensifying the software development, both internally at Nintendo and at developers outside the company, in order to prepare aggressive software lineup for Wii at and after the launch."

* Of the lack of HD support and lack of graphical power compared to PS3 and Xbox 360, Miyamoto said that he hadn't yet been able to use all of the power in the Gamecube so this did not worry him.

* They have no regrets about the name.

* They will be manufacturing 2 million DS Lites per month, at least until Christmas.

and most importntly ....

* Miyamoto is working on a "secret project" , which will be revealed on 6 months.

Very intriguing.
