More Wii details

Wednesday 21 Jun 2006 : 12:19 PM

Nintedo held a "Corporate Management Policy Briefing" yesterday which was basically the press event involving Nintendo bigwigs Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto. Between them they revealed some interesting details about the upcoming Wii and gave some insight into the relative failure of the Gamecube.

You can read the full details here but we've summarised the most interesting bits below.

* Iwata says that Nintendo shouldn't be in business if their only aim for Wii is to outsell the gamecube he says, "we are making efforts so that Wii will show a far greater result than GameCube".

* He blamed the failure of the gamecube on gaps in game releases but promised not to make the same mistake again, "To avoid repeating this with Wii, we have been intensifying the software development, both internally at Nintendo and at developers outside the company, in order to prepare aggressive software lineup for Wii at and after the launch."

* Of the lack of HD support and lack of graphical power compared to PS3 and Xbox 360, Miyamoto said that he hadn't yet been able to use all of the power in the Gamecube so this did not worry him.

* They have no regrets about the name.

* They will be manufacturing 2 million DS Lites per month, at least until Christmas.

and most importntly ....

* Miyamoto is working on a "secret project" , which will be revealed on 6 months.

Very intriguing.

Kotaku is carrying pictures today of the lovely looking new black DS lite.

There's no news of when we'll be able to get hold of one and it's looking even more unlikey thanks to a whole shipment of euro-bound ds lites going missing last week, but we'll certainly let you know (after we've ordered ours obviously!)

Nintendo Game & Watch on DS ?

Monday 19 Jun 2006 : 15:30 PM

Nintendo fans in Japan can not earn themselves a copy of "Game & Watch Collection" for the DS through the company's loyalty programme.

According to a Nintendo website the collection features three classic Game & Watch games , Donkey Kong, Greenhouse and Oil Panic.

At the moment there is no news of anmy commercial release or a UK/US release but if it proves popular (which is of course very likely) then we wouldn't be surprised.
